# Squad Chat and Messaging on GamerPlug

> Squad, tournament, and direct message threads with mentions, read receipts, and reactions. GamerPlug does not include in-app voice chat.

Every squad and tournament on GamerPlug gets its own text thread, so planning survives between sessions instead of disappearing with the lobby. Chat is built into the app — no separate server to join, no link to dig up three weeks later.

<Note>
  GamerPlug does not have in-app voice chat. Squads coordinate over text here and hop into voice wherever they already play.
</Note>

## Squad Chat

When a squad fills, everyone lands in a shared thread. It stays put after the session ends, so callouts, VOD links, and "same time tomorrow?" are all still there next time.

**Mentions** — type `@` and pick a squadmate from the list to ping them directly. Mentions only match people actually in the chat.

**Read receipts** — messages show as delivered, then read, so you know whether your drop-spot plan actually landed before queue.

**Reactions** — react to a message instead of adding another line to the thread.

**Multiple threads** — every chat you belong to is listed newest-first. Switch between them without losing your place.

## Tournament Chat

Registering for a tournament automatically adds you to that event's chat, and your arrival is posted to the thread. Everyone registered is in the same room, which is where organizers drop lobby codes and check-in reminders.

Leaving the tournament removes you from the chat.

<Tip>
  Tournament chat is where the lobby code appears, usually a few minutes before start. Check it before you queue up.

## Direct Messages

When you match with someone, you get a direct thread with them. Direct messages support reactions; mentions and read receipts are squad and tournament chat features.

## Coordinating Voice

Since voice isn't built in, most squads share a Discord or party-chat invite in the squad thread once the roster is set. Tagging **Mic required** on your squad post filters for players who plan to talk, so you're not sorting it out after everyone has loaded in.
